🛡️ Safety Certifications
Are Baby Bertie toys certified safe?
Absolutely. All Baby Bertie toys meet or exceed the strictest U.S. safety standards for children's products. Here's what that means for your family:
- CPSIA Compliant — We comply with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, the federal law governing children's product safety in the United States.
- CPC Certified — Every product comes with a Children's Product Certificate (CPC), which confirms third-party lab testing for safety.
- BPA-Free — Our toys contain absolutely no Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical found in some plastics that can be harmful to babies.
- Phthalates-Free — No phthalates, which are chemicals sometimes used to soften plastics and linked to health concerns.
- 100% Food-Grade Silicone — The same standard used for baby bottle nipples and pacifiers. Safe for mouthing and chewing.
🌿 Materials — Why Silicone?
Why do you use silicone instead of plastic?
Great question! As a mum herself, our founder Natalie wanted materials she'd be completely comfortable handing to her own three children. Silicone ticks every box:
- Non-toxic — Food-grade silicone is inert, meaning it doesn't leach chemicals even when chewed or mouthed.
- Soft & gentle — Perfect for teething babies and sensitive gums.
- Durable — Silicone holds up to drops, squeezes, and enthusiastic little hands without cracking or splintering.
- Easy to clean — Non-porous surface means bacteria and mold have nowhere to hide.
- Temperature stable — Safe in the dishwasher and won't warp or degrade over time.
Is silicone safe for babies who chew on everything?
Yes! Food-grade silicone is specifically designed to be safe for oral contact. It's the same material used in baby bottle nipples, pacifiers, and teethers. Our toys are tested to ensure they can withstand the enthusiastic chewing of even the most determined little ones. 😄
👶 Age Recommendations
How do I know which toy is right for my baby's age?
Each product page includes a specific age recommendation based on developmental stage and safety testing. As a general guide:
- 0–6 months — Soft sensory toys for visual tracking, gentle grasping, and tummy time.
- 6–12 months — Teething toys, stacking rings, and pull toys that support fine motor development and cause-and-effect learning.
- 12–24 months — More complex pull toys and activity toys that encourage walking, coordination, and imaginative play.
- 2+ years — Toys that support language development, creativity, and independent play.
Always check the individual product page for the specific age recommendation, and use your knowledge of your own child's development — every baby is wonderfully unique! 🌟
How do I choose the right toy for my baby's stage?
Think about what your baby is working on right now. Are they starting to reach and grab? Look for toys with easy-to-hold shapes. Are they pulling themselves up to stand? A pull-along toy can be a wonderful motivator. Are they putting everything in their mouth? A silicone teether is your best friend. When in doubt, check the age guide on each product page or reach out to us — we love helping parents find the perfect match.
🧼 Cleaning & Care
How do I clean Baby Bertie toys?
Keeping your baby's toys clean is easy with silicone! Here are your options:
- Dishwasher safe — Place on the top rack for a thorough clean. No special settings needed.
- Hand wash — Warm water and mild dish soap works perfectly. Rinse well and air dry.
- Wipe down — For a quick clean between uses, a damp cloth with a little soap does the trick.
Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, or abrasive scrubbers — they're not needed and could damage the surface over time.
Can I sterilise Baby Bertie toys?
Yes! Food-grade silicone is heat-stable, so you can sterilise our toys by boiling them in water for a few minutes or using a steam steriliser. This is especially handy for newborns or when a toy has been dropped somewhere less-than-ideal. 😅
